After exactly 5 months of being abroad, I safely returned home yesterday. Four months studying at KAIST in Korea turned out to be a great opportunity and a successful endeavor. My two weeks travel through South East Asia, together with Ype, was also a great time and a pleasant holiday.

Our travels got us to fantastic places and world sized cities like Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore. Ype and I visited gorgeous spots in the north of Vietnam with fantastic nature and cultural heritage. Also Halong Bay (no pictures yet), on the north-east coast of Vietnam, was an absolute highlight of our trip. Our motor trip through the chaotic city of Ho Chi Minh City (traffic wise ;-)) to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels (Vietnam War) was absolutely fabulous and extremely exciting. Mekong Delta in the south of Vietnam was nice as well. And a day on the beach was ultimate relaxing.

Thanks to our friends in Singapore, Ype and I were able to experience Singaporean ambiance and enjoyed the hospitality we received there. Via a flight to Macau and a ferry trip back to Hong Kong I flew back to Amsterdam, with full suitcase, some nice souvenirs and two brand new tailored suites. Ype is still on his way to our home country, while I am writing this. My reception at Schiphol Airport was overwhelming and many family members were patiently waiting for me. After a thoroughly baggage check at the Dutch customs, I was finally able to meet them.

Special thanks to my Korean friends from KAIST, for their friendship & hospitality during my stay in Korea. Furthermore I would like to express my appreciation for the loyal visitors of my blogger. Thanks so much for your interest in my stay in Korea and for the numerous comment-posts on my blogger, the many emails and the dozens of post cards I received. All those different kinds of messages, interests and encouragements made my stay even more pleasant. Special thanks to my family back home, who sent me real cheese and coffee and their support. Also special thanks to my cousin Lisette and my Eindhoven classmate Ricky and his wife Dina for sending me real Douwe Egtberts Coffee, please also receive thanks from my Korean lab mates who enjoyed this coffee together with me ;-).Congratulations to my Eindhoven class mates who recently graduated for their masters Innovation Management ( I will contact you guys soon!) Finally I am grateful to God who blessed me in uncountable ways during the 5 passed months.

Beste Vrienden, Family, Class Mates and Trouwe Blog Bezoekers,

Na precies 5 maanden van huis geweest te zijn ben ik gisteren in goede gezondheid terug gekeerd naar huis. Ruim vier maanden studeerde ik met veel plezier in Korea en ben zeer blij met deze fantastische kans en hoe het allemaal gelopen is. M’n twee weken vakantie die ik samen met Ype in Zuid Oost Azië doorbracht bleek ook een succesvolle en prettige te zijn.

We hebben samen prachtige plaatsen bezocht en deze wereldtrip bracht ons in wereldsteden als Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore. Ype en ik hebben prachtige plaatsen in Noord Vietnam bezocht, met schitterende natuur en wat een prachtige culturele ervaring bleek te zijn. Halong Bay, Noord Oost Vietnam, bleek een absolute topper te zijn (helaas geen foto’s op dit moment). De motor trip door Ho Chi Minh City bleek een zeer spannende te zijn en de Cu Chi Tunnels (Vietnam Oorlog) bleken indrukwekend. De Mekong Delta in Zuid Vietnam was ook schitterend en een daagje strand bleek ook een goede keus te zijn.

Met dank aan onze vrienden in Singapore kregen we de fantastische kans om de Singaporese sfeer te proeven en zijn we blij met de gastvrijheid die we daar hebben ervaren. Via een vlucht naar Macau en een veerboot terug naar Hong Kong ben ik terug naar Amsterdam gevlogen. Met een volle koffer, souveniers, twee gloednieuwe op maat gemaakte kostuums ben ik dus gisteren teruggekeerd naar Nederland.

M’n ontvangst op Schiphol was overweldigend en m’n family wachtte geduldig op me. Na een grondige bagagecontrole door de Nederlandse douane kon ik ze eindelijk in de armen sluiten.

Speciaal mijn dank aan m’n Koreaanse vrienden van KAIST, voor hun vriendschap en gastvrijhijd tijdens mijn verblijf in Korea. Verder zou ik m’n waardering en dank willen uitspreken voor de trouwe bezoekers aan m’n blogger. Veel dank voor de comments, emailtjes en kaarten die ik in Korea ontving. Deze belangstelling heeft m’n verblijf extra aangenaam gemaakt. In het bijzonder dank aan m’n familie voor hun belangstelling en de echte kaas en koffie die ik in Korea ontving. Lisette, ook jij in bijzonder dank voor je koffie en ook Ricky & Dina hartelijk bedankt voor jullie pakketje. Ook dank vanuit m’n lab waar ze ook naar hartelust hebben genoten van de heerlijke koffie. Tenslotte dank ik God voor de talloze zegeningen die ik gedurende deze vijf maanden heb ontvangen.
